Following a successful semester, the club volleyball team is hoping to increase their roster to address absences that can occur with injuries, according to senior geography major Marissa Mounger, vice president of the team.

“We are looking for three or four people just in case injuries do happen. We had a couple of times we couldn’t go to a tournament,” said Mounger.

“So, it was kind of like, ‘hey we can’t go to this tournament because this person is hurt, and this person is hurt’ or this person is sick.”

The team has a full roster of 10 members this semester. However, they will lose one member once Beach graduates this semester, but are hopeful that students will try out to fill out the roster.

“Our roster was full this season, but now we have people leaving, graduating and others that are injured. We’ll be looking for people to join in the spring,” said Beach.

The team wants to compete in tournaments without having to worry about injuries or illnesses preventing them from playing. The team will host tryouts for positions the second week back from break, according to Beach.

“We don’t start until the middle of February, so we have about two and a half weeks to practice before the season starts,” said Beach.

“I’m hoping to hold a tryout maybe in December before break or, if anything, have a tryout right when we come back in January,” said Mounger.

The team wrapped up their season during the first weekend of November. They began the season with a championship win and ended it with a tournament win hosted at the University of Colorado.

Beginning the season this way was good for the team, according to Beach.

“We started off the season with a championship, so that was nice,” said Beach. “It was a great way to start off the season back in early September, and then we ended the season with a win.”

According to Beach, the team does not compete in tournaments until the middle of the semester. Once the end of the term draws near, the team gives themselves time to focus on schoolwork.

The team’s next season is slated to start in the early weeks of April, including a tournament after spring break, according to Beach.

The team plays other club teams from CU-Boulder; Colorado School of Mines; Colorado State University-Pueblo, Metro State; Wyoming; Air Force, and more.
