Academic Review: shades of green

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! It brings me so much joy to embrace my Irish heritage in all the traditional ways: drinking (Thai tea because I don’t drink alcohol), partying (I have rehearsal tonight) and wearing green (that I can do).

Speaking of green, I’m all for an opportunity to indulge in my second or third favorite color for the day. And since Tori [Smith, managing editor] pitched this idea and then didn’t want to write it after all, I get to take on the challenge of rating shades of green.

I have to be careful here, though — my eyes are green, so my vision is colored with bias. I think I can pull through though.

  1. Pantone 361: “Emerald Green”

This is the green you think of when you think of green. Not my favorite but a solid start. 6/10.

  1. Hex: #43b02a

A little better! A little greener, I think. Reminds me of soft rolling fields. 7/10.

  1. “Shepherd’s Green”

A touch on the lighter side — more sprightly and delicate, but I prefer darker colors. 5/10.

  1. “Minecraft Lilypad”

Really gets across the vibe of a peaceful, completely pixelated swamp. 7.5/10.

  1. “Shrek’s Left Ear”

Really gets across the vibe of an aggressive, fully rendered swamp. 8/10.

  1. “Mirror Looking at Grass”

Kinda bland. 5/10.

  1. “Autumn Leaves But Early”

Imagine a cool, crisp Autumn with leaves of crimson and gold gently tumbling off of an oak tree. Now imagine that tree three months earlier. 8/10.

  1. “Sexy M&M”

Spicy, assertive, in charge. 9/10.

  1. “The Shade Of Green My Dad Turned When I Told Him I Wanted To Be A Theater[re] Major”

Paints a picture. 4/10.
