For many students, focusing on fitness can be a way to find stress relief, a better sleeping schedule and a way to improve their physical health.
The Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center is offering one free group fitness class every week.
“We offer free group fitness class passes to give people an opportunity to try out our classes before committing to purchasing a FitPass. Free group fitness class passes can be obtained from fitness instructors or from a FitPass holder,” according to Torin Kaletsky, program coordinator of fitness.
However, if students can’t make it to free classes, which are promoted on the UCCS Campus Recreation Facebook page, they can buy a FitPass for $20. The Rec Center offers 30 classes a week, including cycling, cardio, dance and yoga, among others.
Classes are drop-in, so no advance registration is necessary, according to Kaletsky. Classes are limited to 18 students on the first floor and 46 on the second floor studios.
“Buying and presenting a FitPass are required for access, but we do offer free classes at the beginning and end of every semester as well as one free class every week,” said Kaletsky in an email.
“We love having as many people participate as we can.” Kaletsky said.
Group fitness classes are year-round, so students who have summer classes have the opportunity to utilize these classes.
“During the summer semester, FitPasses will be free, but we will offer fewer classes. Participants are encouraged to wear athletic clothing and shoes, and all necessary equipment for each class is provided.” Kaletsky said
Once a student purchases a FitPass, there are no additional costs and all classes become open to the student. If a student is unable to purchase a pass, Kaletsky says there are a couple of opportunities to participate, still.
