COVID-19 at UCCS
A total of 26 members of the UCCS community have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Sept. 29. Last week, nine new cases were confirmed in a five-day period. Three of 33 isolation rooms are currently occupied by recovering parties.
According to the El Paso County Health Department, the local incidence rate — or number of cases per population of 100,000 — has increased by almost 37% in the last two weeks. This puts the county at risk of reverting to tighter restrictions. To date, El Paso County has had 6,943 cases and 174 deaths. Colorado has had 68,973 cases and 2,047 deaths. According to Johns Hopkins University, globally, 33.5 million people have tested positive for the virus and more than one million have died from it.
