Injury Report | Busby out for the remainder of the season

On Jan. 26, the UCCS women’s basketball team competed against Chadron State College when junior guard Mattie Busby was helped off the court after sustaining an injury in the second quarter.

Busby did not return for the rest of the game against Chadron and did not dress out on Jan. 27 against Colorado Christian University or Feb. 2 against New Mexico Highlands.

According to head coach Misty Wilson, Busby will not return for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL.

“We will miss her energy as well as the competitive edge that she brought to practice each day,” she said

Before transferring to UCCS, Busby finished with a successful two seasons at Murray State College and helped her team win two conference titles. Busby averaged 7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game during her first year. In her second year, she improved her stats to 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

As Busby ended her 2023-2024 season, she finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds with 13 being defensive, 12 assists, six steals and three blocks. She hit a season-high of eight points against Cameron in November.

Busby continues to show support for her team, cheering them on from the bench. The Mountain Lions hope for her return in the 2024-2025 season.
