Lacrosse team prepares for start of 2024 season

The UCCS women’s lacrosse team starts the 2024 season with nine home games, beginning on Feb. 27 against Findlay. UCCS finished the 2023 season going 5-5 in the RMAC and 6-11 overall, placing them with the third-best record in the conference.

RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year Madison McGriff will be returning this season after making program history with her Academic All-America selection in the spring.

Returning attacker Julia Patrick was the leading scorer for UCCS with 52 goals, 15 assists and 67 points for the 2023 season. Patrick was followed by attacker Brielle Fannin with 38 goals, 16 assists and 54 points. Allie Schell was the third-highest scorer with 23 goals, 14 assists and 37 points.

UCCS scored 190 goals with 88 assists on 404 shots in 2023. Their shot percentage was .470 compared to their opponents .414, and shots on goal percentage was .762 compared to .752.

Head coach Melissa Rausch will be entering her third season as head coach for UCCS and fifth season with the program. The women’s lacrosse team has been a varsity program for eight seasons and has qualified for four straight RMAC Tournaments going into 2024.

The women’s lacrosse team has already signed eight recruits for the 2025 season, and they have seven seniors and one graduate student on the roster this season.

Coming up, the Mountain Lions will play again on Mar. 4 against Dominican and Mar. 6 against Concordia- St. Paul.
