If you can remember the coffee crazes of 2014, you may recall Bulletproof coffee, a coffee company that boasted rejuvenating properties.

UCCS has begun to serve bullet-butter coffee for $3, a similar type of coffee that uses organic, grass-fed butter and coconut oil as a creamer.

As someone who drinks a wide variety of caffeinated drinks, bullet-butter coffee is something new for my pallet.

If you happen to pick up this new drink in the coming week, here is what to expect.

Upon the first sip, it is a shock to the system. The flavor is bitter with slight coconut overtones and creamy undertones. While this drink is creamy, it does not have any added syrups or sugars, bringing out the natural bitter coffee flavor.

If you are accustomed to sweet, sugary drinks, you may be in for a shock. Coconut is a tame flavor and helps mask the bitterness of the coffee.

The coconut is not overpowering but adds a little something for your taste buds to play with.

The coffee has a pleasant flavor, but the aftertaste leaves much to be desired. Unlike most coffee drinks that leave my mouth wanting more, this one made me glad it was smaller drink.

You may notice it is smoother than most coffees. This is due to the coconut oil, which is not only highly versatile, but also boasts many medicinal purposes. The smoothness makes it an aesthetically pleasing coffee, despite its bitter flavor.

All things considered, it was a good pick-me-up and the smoothness was refreshing to the system. Butter-bullet coffee is an acquired taste, so if you are looking to try something new, this may be your drink.

But if you tend to prefer sugarier coffees, you may want to give this one a miss.
