SGA’s ClydeCon to return April 25

ClydeCon is returning to campus for UCCS’ third annual clothing swap. Students can sift through threads and meet new clubs.

The event will feature a donated clothing exchange and dorm-goods exchange, free food and gifts, and tents for participating clubs and organizations to set up stations. Students can bring in gently used clothing and dorm items to donate, then thrift other students’ donations for free. ClydeCon will be held on the West Lawn between Columbine and Osborne on April 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first 300 attendees will receive a free tote bag or fanny pack.

This year has more club collaboration than previous years, according to Isabella Polombo, current senator of innovation, vice president elect and ClydeCon planner. The largest collaborators are Black Student Union, Feminist Club, Clyde’s Cupboard, UCCS Radio, Office of Sustainability, GAF and the UCCS Farm. Polombo worked with Residence Life and Housing, which gathered donations from residential students for the dorm-supply exchange.

Collaboration with these organizations and departments means the event will reach more students and facilitate a stronger sense of community and belonging, said Polombo. She hopes that ClydeCon will become a semesterly event.

“In the future, as Clyde’s Clothing Corner gets more volunteers and engagements, we’ll be able to do this as a semesterly event, and there are enough numbers to prove that this actually sees a large student turnout each year,” Polombo said.

ClydeCon was created in 2023 by alumni Chloe Rosenkrantz, then-senator of arts, with the vision of more sustainable resources for students on campus. Rosenkrantz collaborated with Sisterhood Club and MOSAIC to create the annual clothing exchange.

ClydeCon has since been adopted by Clyde’s Clothing Corner with SGA taking charge as event organizers. Specifically, Senator at Large Aiyanna Quinones, SGA Resource Officer Madeline Metzger and Polombo have assumed responsibility. “ClydeCon is about sustainability and resources,” Polombo said. “Our mission is to make basic needs clothing accessible to students.”

If students are interested in volunteering for set up, clean up or event leading, they can sign up here. Students can RSVP to ClydeCon via Mountain Lion Connect.
