Sports Briefs: April 10

Athletic Department

    Sarah Meier was hired as the Associate Director for External Relations for the UCCS Athletic Department. She will start on April 10.

    Meier previously held the positions of associate commissioner at RMAC headquarters from 2006-2013 and assistant athletic director for media relations at Fort Lewis College. She had led the Fort Lewis Sports Information Department since 2013.

 

Women’s Golf

    On April 4, senior Alex Darwin was named RMAC Women’s Golfer of the Week. She led the team at the Desert Invitational in Tucson, Arizona to an eleventh place finish out of 16.

    Darwin tied for No. 21 and was the highest finisher from any RMAC team that was at the tournament. The Mountain Lions edged out Colorado Mesa University by four stroke. The team will be competing at the Maverick Spring Invitational in Grand Junction, Colorado April 16-17.

 

Men’s Golf

    On April 4, junior Jack Duguid was named the RMAC Men’s Golfer of the Week. He tied for first at the Mustang Intercollegiate tournament in Goodyear, Arizona and helped the Mountain Lions finish tied for third out of twenty teams.

    The team will next be competing in the RMAC Championships in Chandler, Arizona April 22-24.

 

Women’s Basketball

     Head coach Lynn Plett was honored with the Kay Yow Award Heart of a Coach Award by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) on April 1. He is the only coach from UCCS to have received the award since it was first awarded to Kay Yow in 2008.

    Named for the late North Carolina State coaching icon Kay Yow, the award is presented annually by FCA to honor a basketball coach who has exemplified biblical principles over the course of his or her career.
