The Colorado Springs Chinese Cultural Institute (CSCCI) is galloping into The Year of the Horse with their 27th annual Lunar New Year Festival at the Ent Center. The festival will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The highlight of the event will be the two cultural performances held in the Shockley-Zalabak Theater at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. With a focus on tradition, there will be Taiko drummers, ribbon and fan dancers, Chinese instruments, lion dances, contortionists, acrobats and more. Tickets are $14 for students and available through the Ent Center.
A “Chinatown” marketplace will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will offer a variety of Chinese jewelry, clothing, artwork and more. There will be an Asian pottery studio for attendees to create their own pottery, as well as an interactive art zone for children.
Asian food trucks will be located outside of the Ent Center, as well as a “Tea House” offering an authentic Chinese tea experience, according to the CSCCI website.
Free martial arts demonstrations will be given at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
