Welcome back to the Study Break. If you’re not caught up on your homework, that’s alright, I wish I did my homework instead of going to see “Send Help” in theaters.
“Send Help” follows crude boss Preston (Dylan O’Brian), and hard-working employee Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams), on a work trip together before their plane crashes on a deserted island. With her survival skills, Liddle finds that the roles are now reversed and the power dynamic switches with her boss.
Sam Raimi, the director of “Send Help,” has clearly fallen off since directing the “Spider-Man” trilogy in the early 2000s.
“Send Help” is labeled as a horror/comedy, but it feels genre-less — and not in a good way. I kept a straight face for the whole movie. Nothing about this film struck fear in me; the score was subpar and none of the jokes landed.
I don’t care what the budget was, I haven’t seen a worse looking movie in a long time. How are we making films like this in 2026? It’s not only the directing style that is mediocre, but the special effects and CGI were horrible.
Not only was the movie itself written poorly, but the script was so basic that not even the best actor or actress could redeem themselves. I wish I could purely blame the script, but O’Brian’s looks couldn’t save him from the poor performance he gave. Somehow, McAdams brought an even worse display of acting than O’Brian.
Don’t see this movie. Stay at home and watch Oscar nominated films instead.
