FAFSA applications and UCCS need-based scholarship applications to meet the priority deadline are due March 1.
The FAFSA application provides students with federal aid via grants, loans, work-study programs and state and institutional aid. Need-based scholarships require a FAFSA submission along with it and will be applied to tuition, housing, supplies and other school expenses.
In addition to the FAFSA application, the university offers many in-house scholarships that students are encouraged to utilize, according to Jevita Rogers, assistant vice chancellor for enrollment management and financial aid.
Students can apply for scholarships under the ‘Financial Aid’ tab in their UCCS portal. When applying, all students submit an essay that covers most scholarship requirements before looking scholarships with specific requirements, such as year or major, but does not automatically qualify an applicant for a scholarship.
Scholarship amounts vary, such as the Pay it Forward scholarship, which allots $4,000 to $15,000 a year.
The Financial Aid Office hosts weekly workshops in February called FAFSA Fridays, which are designed to help students navigate the application process.
Students can learn more by visiting the Financial Aid website and schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office or walk-in Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for additional help.
