The Colorado Springs Undergraduate Research Forum (CSURF) will be held on April 25. Abstracts for the event are due on April 6.
An abstract is a paragraph that provides a general overview of the work an author will present in less than 300 words. Presentations include research projects or other creative works, such as short films.
Though the program is hosted by the college of LAS, students of all majors are allowed to participate either individually or with a group.
According to Minette Church, an associate dean of the college of LAS, presentations are often drawn from internship experience, class assignments or personal studies.
Allowed presentation styles include speeches, posters, performances and visual displays, such as a demonstration or piece of art.
All students are required to have a faculty advisor in order to participate.
According to Church, students who participate are likely to benefit from the forum.
“It is a chance for undergraduates to meet their peers at other colleges, and to begin to build their [academic resume] with professional presentations in a friendly audience context,” she said.
The event also allows students, faculty and staff at local institutions to see a wide range of work by undergraduate students across all disciplines. Community members are also welcome to attend.
The college of LAS created CSURF in 2003 as an annual event and invited other local institutions to join, including Pikes Peak State College, the Air Force Academy, and Colorado College. The conference rotates among participating campuses.
CSURF is a collaborative venture designed to highlight the research and creative works of undergraduates from the four main colleges in Colorado Springs.
Student presenters will be provided lunch and access to free poster printing for their presentations through the visual resource center.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m on April 25 and will be held at the Pikes Peak State College Downtown Campus.
Interested students can submit their abstracts here. Students with questions can email Margie Oldham, the CSURF contact for UCCS, at [email protected].
