American Ballet Theatre Studio Company to host performance at Ent Center

The American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Studio Company is coming to the UCCS Ent Center for the Arts on March 13 at 7 p.m. and March 14 at 2 p.m.

The performance on March 13 will combine traditional techniques with contemporary choreography, according to Elyce Gronseth, assistant director of marketing and communications for the Ent Center.

“It’s athletic, dynamic and pushes the boundaries of what the human body can do, delivering the same visceral energy as gymnastics or figure skating,” she said.

On March 14, a performance designed for young audiences and their families will feature an abridged, narrated program enhanced with explanations and demonstrations that show the fundamentals of ballet.

ABT Studio Company, the junior company of American Ballet Theatre, is made up of rising stars of the ballet world between the ages of 17 and 21.

The ABT was founded in 1940. They host annual tours across the United States, performing for more than 450,000 people. In 2006, the United States Congress honored ABT as “America’s National Ballet Company.”

“Over 80 percent of American Ballet Theatre’s main company dancers, including Misty Copeland, came through Studio Company. This is a rare chance to see future legends before they’re headlining on world stages with $200 tickets,” Gronseth said.

The performance is presented in partnership with the Dance Alliance of the Pikes Peak Region and Green Box Arts, a year-round arts celebration based in Green Mountain Falls that hosts a variety of performances.

Pricing for the March 13 show ranges from $49 to $79. Pricing for the March 14 show ranges from $12.75 to $50.50. UCCS students can explore affordable ticketing options by contacting the box office at 719-255-3232.
