On Sunday, Oct. 1, the UCCS men’s soccer team fell to the Metro State Roadrunners 1-0. Starting in the first half, the Mountain Lions held strong possession of the ball, with 8 shots and 2 on goal. In a strong defensive effort, UCCS held the Roadrunners to no attempted shots to end the first half in a scoreless tie. In the second half, defensive pressure was let up and the Roadrunners were able to get off six shots, two of which were on goal.
In the last 10 seconds of the game, Metro State’s Luke Bone, as a result of a penalty kick, sent the ball towards the goal, allowing for Roadrunner attacker Andres Arcila Saenz to have a clean look for a header and put it into the net, scoring the only goal of the game and sealing a 1-0 defeat of the Mountain Lions.
Overall, the Mountain Lions led the game in shots 19 to 6, as well as shots on goal, 6 to 4. #11 Kolby Raineri led UCCS with 3 shots on goal.
