Caffeine lovers are getting attention as new shops pop up around the city, and older favorites get a chance in the spotlight with their signature products.

The Scribe visited two coffee spots in Colorado Springs to bring you some insight to what you could be experiencing with your daily grind.

The following places are perfect for afternoon meetings, study sessions or that coveted game night with friends.

KaPow Comics and Coffee

Location: 4239 N. Nevada Ave.

Hours: Monday–Thursday 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The newly opened KaPow Comics and Coffee offers customers a noteworthy change from the typical coffee shop scene.

Hosting both a cafe with baked goods delivered daily from Old School Bakery and a comic book store, KaPow can fuel your super hero addiction and caffeinate your brain.

For “Star Wars” lovers, the frothy hot chocolate ($2.65) fits into the quirky store’s vibe. The drink was topped with mini snowcap marshmallows, which would make any Stormtrooper melt.

KaPow also hosts trivia nights, local art shows, house-made sandwiches and killer cafe creations for prices that don’t break a college student’s bank.

Kairos Coffee House

Location: 505 Popes Bluff Trail

Hours: Monday–Friday 6:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday — Closed

Kairos Coffee House is perfect for those who want something that’s set off the beaten path. Old School Bakery provides the treats as well as house made soups and salads for those wanting a quick lunch and a sweet treat to top off their day.

As I ordered a chai latte ($4.79), the barista let me choose which mug I wanted to use. The various designs added to the appeal of staying and enjoying my cup of frothy milk and spicy chai tea. The shop uses Royal Crest Dairy for all their drinks, and all the food is made to order.

With a warm fireplace, large comfy chairs and a quiet, laid-back atmosphere, Kairos is a good choice for those wanting to study or warm their bones by the fire with a cup of Kairos finest joe.
