March is the month of luck, but it hasn’t been lucky in the popularity department. Most people often obsess over summer or holiday-filled months, leaving March largely overlooked.
Whenever someone asks what makes the month special, I can’t help but be baffled that so few recognize its charm. March goes criminally underrated for its flora, fauna and food.
March offers the first glimpse of green after our long Colorado winters. Green is everywhere, creeping in where the world has been brown and gray for so many months. There’s a gentle enchantment in the way March paints the world.
Even if you never see a ladybug during the month of good fortune, you can still create your own lucky charm. After all, March is National Craft Month, the perfect time to make a little magic of your own.
March also has a sweeter side. From minty treats to festive desserts, the month tempts both eyes and taste buds. McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes have returned, bright green and full of minty goodness.
But that’s not the only treat worth indulging in, especially if you’re a fan of mint. It’s a great time to get baking; March wouldn’t be complete without grasshopper cake, a chocolate-and-mint delight that practically sings green.
With sweet treats in tow, St. Patrick’s Day also graces this delightful month. It’s an underrated holiday, if you ask me — I think everyone should wear green every day!
Bring out the Lucky Charms, embark on a quest to the end of the rainbow, and befriend some leprechauns. Dress in the wildest green getup you have.
After St. Patrick’s Day, March pirouettes toward spring break with the arrival of the equinox. Cold whispers of winter linger, but soft, fresh breezes hint at blooming flowers and warmer days ahead. Cool mornings make you want to hide in cozy sweaters, while gentle breezes carry the first hints of blossoms and the world feels delightfully alive.
And maybe that’s why March feels so special. It’s the month where the world begins again with flowers blooming, rain washing the earth clean and the quiet promise that something new is just beginning.
January may start the calendar, but March restarts the world again. And with it comes the quiet invitation we all need sometimes: the chance to begin anew.
