UCCS played Black Hills State in a two-day series on Feb. 24 and 25. The Mountain Lions finished 3-1, improving their record to 9-8 overall and 6-2 against RMAC opponents.
Freshman catcher Gianna Pancost led the Mountain Lions in the first game with three hits in three at-bats, raising her season average to .371. Freshman outfielder Jacqueline Berkowitz, who also had three hits, drove in three runs on two singles in the third and fourth innings. Berkowitz was the team leader in hits throughout the series.
Sophomore utility player Alyssa Gutierrez added a pair of hits in the second and fourth games. Freshman infielder Laynee Case went 2-3 with a double and a stolen base in the third game, tied with Berkowitz and freshman infielder Jennavieve Goldsworth.
Up next, the Mountain Lions take on Chadron State on Mar. 1 in Chadron. Their next home games will be on Mar. 9 and Mar. 10 against Colorado Mesa University.
