Dropping temperatures and snowy conditions don’t always mean that students have to stay indoors.
The S.O.L.E Center will host a Ski & Soak trip to Monarch Mountain and Hot Springs on Dec. 2. The one-day trip, a yearly tradition for the S.O.L.E Center, costs $80.
Registration opened on Nov. 13; however, it will close on Dec. 1.
Students who attend will ski at Monarch and experience the Hot Springs at Mount Princeton, according to Chris Ertman, program coordinator of Outdoor Programs and Trails.
“Our maximum limit is 26 participants, and after that we will have a waiting list,” said Ertman.
Monarch Mountain is about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from UCCS, while Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort is a two-hour drive. The Hot Springs are a destination that tourists from all over the world come to visit, and sit in the natural warm waters that the hot springs provides.
The S.O.L.E. Center has hosted 10 trips so far this semester, visiting locations including biking at Winter Park, rocking climbing at Garden of the Gods and skydiving.
While this is currently the only ski trip that is planned, the winter schedule for the S.O.L.E Center outdoor activities will be finalized by Dec. 1, according to Ertman. The S.O.L.E Center usually hosts three ski trips over the course of the season.
Students also have the springtime activities to look forward to that the S.O.L.E Center provides, including a multi-sport excursion in Utah and a skydiving trip, among others.
“In the spring we usually do some ski and snowboarding trips, and then we do at least one snowshoeing trip,” said Ertman.
“Over spring break, we go on rafting, rock climbing and mountain biking trip.”
