The Student Government Association (SGA) approved two Appointment Advisory Committee (AAC) recommendations and seven Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) recommendations at their Feb. 14 senate meeting.
After reviewing two applications, the AAC recommended junior Brandon Goldstein for Senator of Sustainability and junior Kyle Kight for Justice.
Goldstein was approved 11-0 and Kight was approved 10-0 with two abstentions.
Connor Price, the Senator of Business, did not vote on the Goldstein appointment, and Philip Oke-Thomas, the Senator-at-Large and Dan Boyd, the Senator of the Arts, abstained on the Kight appointment.
A total amount of $1,031.30 was requested by the Student Affairs and High Education (SAHE) Association for their annual graduation celebration on May 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is to recognize between 25 and 30 graduates with an estimated 100 people in attendance. Their request was approved 11-0 with Senator-at-Large Stephen Holmes recusing himself.
$641 was requested by the Communicative Graduate Student Association to cover food and beverage costs for Communication Career Night on March 7. The event will be from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in University Center 116. 130 people are estimated to be in attendance. Their request was approved 12-0.
$384.40 was requested by the Colorado Bhangra Team club to cover dance event expenses. Their request was approved 11-0 with Grant Nelson, Senator-at-Large abstaining.
A sports expense of $1,664.47 was requested by the UCCS Men’s Lacrosse Club for equipment to keep up with lacrosse standards. Their request was approved 12-0.
A total of $613.36 was requested by the Geographic Information System (GIS) club for registration and travel to the Esri Southwest User conference in Denver. The conference is from March 26 to 27. Five students and one faculty member from the club will be attending the conference. Their request was approved 12-0.
$1,000 was requested by the Asian Pacific Islander Student Union (APISU) for the Fusion event on March 14 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m in Berger Hall. 300 people are expected to attend. Rapper Dan AKA Dan will be performing at the event. Their request was approved 12-0.
$2,000 was requested by the Colorado Bhangra Team club to donate to the APISU for their event. Their request was approved 10-1, with Nelson voting against the recommendation and Jeffrey Turkowski, the Senator of Education, abstaining..
With the upcoming SGA elections, candidates will debate on Feb. 21 in UC 102 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. about why each of them deserve to serve on the SGA. Pizza will be available at the debate.
Students can vote for their chosen representatives March 11-15 at a voting station.
