SGA welcomed three new members

SGA swore in the senator of the arts and senator-at-large at the Oct. 9 Senate meeting.

SGA President Aidan Burke also introduced freshman Hunter Roren as a student-at-large since that position does not require a vote, according to previous Scribe reporting.

Senator of the Arts

SGA voted 13-0, with three absences and one abstaining, to elect Dominik Goodman as the senator of the arts.

Goodman is a freshman dual-majoring in theatre and dance. He participated in student government all four years of high school at Air Academy High School (AAHS) and strives to provide everyone at UCCS with the best experience possible.

Goodman hopes to improve the arts, specifically the Ent Center’s visibility with increased advertising that alerts students to different events and the benefits they receive via tuition, such as free tickets to Ent Center performances.

Senator-at-Large

SGA voted 13-0, with three absences and one abstaining, to elect Logan Smith as a new senator-at-large.

Smith is a freshman majoring in physics. Before attending UCCS, he worked as a mechanic for the United States Air Force for six years.

Smith hopes to build leadership skills and help improve UCCS. His priorities include ensuring veteran students receive proper mental health care and hosting a voter registration day before the election on Nov. 4.

Student-at-Large

Roren decided to join SGA because he was impressed after attending a UCCS Senate meeting while attending AAHS.

According to previous Scribe reporting, SGA invited the AAHS to attend a Senate meeting to show students how a college student government meeting works and encourage student government participation in college.

Roren is passionate about being involved with the community and hopes to bring ACHS to another Senate meeting.

In other news:

  • Chancellor Sobanet will attend the next SGA meeting, on Oct. 23, for 45 minutes to answer four questions prepared by SGA.

  • Student-at-large Bri Maddox will proxy for Breanna Fraker, senator of nurses and health sciences, for the remainder of the semester at Senate meetings.
