SGA elected a new director of finance and passed a bill to fund the Air Academy High School’s upcoming visit at the Nov. 6 Senate meeting.
As a result of The Government Shutdown Food Assistance Bill passed on Oct. 30, there are food bags located on the first floor of Main Hall and in the Zen Den in the Recreation and Wellness Center, according to the Director of Student Engagement, Noelle San Souci.
New Director of Finance
SGA voted unanimously to confirm Josh Mathias as the new director of finance.
Mathias is an undergraduate student majoring in accounting and finance with a minor in business analytics who spent twenty years in the Navy before retiring. He describes himself as meticulous and motivated to any fix errors he encounters.
When asked how he sees himself working with the Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) and student clubs, Mathias said he would like to begin the funding process sooner to give clubs and BAC more time to ask questions before meeting to determine if the funding will be approved.
“So, by the time they show up to the meetings, we’re not spending two to three hours asking questions… plus the same questions get asked to all the clubs because they weren’t answered ahead of time, so why not ask the questions ahead of time so we’re not wasting time,” Mathias said.
Mathias also discussed revising how clubs request funding, including the Mountain Lion Connect page.
Air Academy High School Visit Bill
SGA voted unanimously to pass a bill that will fund the Air Academy High School Student Council visit on Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
The bill totals $261.93 to fund pizza, water and three prizes for a Kahoot competition.
The students will meet with members of SGA in the Student Life Lounge before observing the senate meeting at 7:30 p.m.
The event is meant to foster mentorship and student government engagement by increasing the students’ exposure to collegiate government.
