UCCS sports teams competed across Colorado last week with women’s basketball, men’s basketball and men’s track and field vying for spots in their respective RMAC championships. Women’s softball finished their second week of conference play.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team lost to Adams State, 71-65, on Feb. 20. UCCS was able to hold the lead for most of the second quarter but lost it almost four minutes into the third quarter. Adams State held about a 5-point lead throughout the majority of the game, although a jumper and layup by guard Amyah Moore Allen brought UCCS to within 1 point of the lead twice in the fourth quarter.
The Mountain Lions beat New Mexico Highlands, 75-72, in a close match on Feb. 22. The game saw five players score in the double digits: Maison White (20), Moore Allen (13), Rylie Ottman (12), Krystina Hagood (10) and Emily Vidal (10).
The Mountain Lions RMAC record stands at 11-7, tied for sixth in the RMAC standings with CSU Pueblo. Only four spots remain in the eight-team RMAC championship tournament. The Mountain Lions play next against Colorado School of Mines on Feb. 27. The final game of the regular season is against Regis on March 1.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team lost both of their road games last week. The first loss on Feb. 20 was a blowout win by Adams State, 93-69, where UCCS was never able to take the lead.
UCCS was narrowly beaten by New Mexico Highlands, 95-92, on Feb. 22. The game was determined by free throws in the final minutes with New Mexico Highlands coming out on top. Freshman guard Gavin Carter set a personal single game scoring record, leading the Mountain Lions with 25 points scored on Feb. 22.
The men’s basketball team’s 10-8 RMAC record puts them in seventh in the conference. Just two spots remain in the RMAC championship tournament. They play conference leader Colorado School of Mines who have only lost once this season on Feb. 27. They have their final game of the regular season on March 1 against Regis.
Men’s Track and Field
