Spooky season is upon us, and what better way to spend a chilly weekend than by watching a Halloween movie? Along with music, such as the Scribe’s “Almost-Spooky” playlist, movies can be a great way to immerse yourself in the festivity.
Whether it’s horror, comedy or Charlie Brown, the Scribe staff share their favorite Halloween movies.

I’m going with “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” maybe the most elite movie of all time. Don’t debate me.

I gotta go with “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” I don’t do well with horror, and Peanuts make everything better. My family and I watched it when I was growing up.
Nick Smith | Managing Editor
Tough choice, but I gotta go with “The Grudge.” 10-year-old me watched this movie and was absolutely mortified, but it became a fun way to scare the hell out of my friends.
Tori Smith | News Editor
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” I love to go to live showings, and the audience callbacks make the movie infinitely better!
Zee O’Donnell | Features Editor
My all-time favorite movie is “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” but I believe that is a Halloween and Christmas movie, so my favorite just Halloween movie is “Beetlejuice.”

As someone gets scared easily and would much rather laugh, my favorite Halloween movie is the 1985 masterpiece “Clue.” Yes, it’s a Halloween movie. It has mystery and a spooky house.

“Hocus Pocus.” My mom and I watched it every year when I was young, so it’s super nostalgic for me!

OK so Halloween-wise, definitely “Practical Magic.” It’s everything being a witch in the modern era should be about. Plus, some beautiful life lessons. Fall-wise, one of my favorite movies is “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” It’s a perfect movie in every single way, and I love it!
Joseph Impellitteri | Reporter
“Die Hard.”
Noah March | Reporter
“Requiem for a Dream.” It’s my favorite horror movie because I have never been more scared watching a movie in my life.
Syanna Santiago-Smith | Reporter
“Practical Magic.” It’s a tradition for my mom, grandma, sister and me to watch it every October!
Rhianna Smith-Burns | Reporter
My favorite is “IT” (2017) because it was the first scary movie I saw in theaters, and I think it’s great.
