Staff Picks: our Spring Break Plans: the academic review

Spring break: the one time we tell ourselves that we’ll relax for sure, and then continue the trend of not doing what we say we were going to do. I spent most of spring break saying, “boy am I sure glad I get to rest,” and then not resting. Anyway, our staff had a variety of fun plans for what they wanted their break to look like. Let’s judge them.

Abby Aldinger | Managing Editor

My plans for spring break are to celebrate my 21st birthday with my twin sister Maggie and bake lots of bread!

Rating: Happy Birthday, Abby! 8/10, but only if the bread turned out good.

Ellie Myers | Associate Editor

I’ll be staying home and hopefully sleeping. It’s about time to read “Pride and Prejudice” again, so I might do that too.

Rating: I didn’t get to read “Pride and Prejudice.” I slept and worked and wished I was reading “Pride and Prejudice.” 0/10.

Tom Baker | Sports Editor

I’m going to a friend’s wedding in Mexico.

Rating: Hope it lasts. 7/10.

Scotty Dunne | Podcast & Video Editor

Heading home to Illinois! Not as exciting as Colorado but it will be nice to relax and spend time with family and friends!

Rating: Correct, Illinois has nothing on us. Whatever, Scotty. I bet the corn tasted really good this time. 4/10.

Weston Buhr | Business Manager

I’m going to Munich, Germany through the UCCS College of Business!

Rating: Imagine traveling and getting college credit for it. Points off because you’re not supposed to learn anything over break. 7/10.

Kate Marlett | Copy Editor

I would love to visit Lake Havasu City, Arizona, but every year all the college students have the same idea, and it gets very crowded. Maybe I’ll work on some assignments and watch Phineas and Ferb.

Rating: We didn’t ask for hypotheticals, Kate. We asked for “plans.” You sent out the article and you’re the one letting down the brand. DISQUALIFIED/10.

Ella Barry | Reporter

I’m going to be working quite a lot over spring break and picking up extra hours. But, when I’m not working, I’ll be reading nonstop! I have a couple of books I’m hoping to get through by the end of the break.

Rating: What is this, productivity? Lie around feeling sorry for not being able to read like the rest of us, Ella. How dare you make actual concrete plans to do the things you want to do. 7.3/10.

Olivia Nordyke | Reporter

I’m going on a few small trips in Colorado, but I’ll be daydreaming about the beach the whole time. At least I’ll save myself from the sunburn!

Rating: Beaches are overrated. I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere. Stay here and get sunburned anyway. 6/10.

Nick Smith | Reporter

My spring break is primarily going to be spent hanging out with friends and procrastinating on all my assignments due next week.

Rating: Procrastinating is the way to go. 11/10.
