Ever been stressed from being a full-time college student? Well, imagine being the president of seven clubs on top of all that.
Jessie Thompson is a senior communication and film major. Thompson is president of the Anime Club, Film Club, Running Club, Writing Club, Book Club, and Star Wars club, which has been split into two different clubs: light side and dark side.
Thompson’s journey to becoming president of all seven clubs began with a position as vice president of Anime Club his sophomore year. He soon realized how many clubs were missing from campus and took it upon himself to solve the problem. Thompson started clubs covering a wide range of hobbies and interests for the student population to participate in.
“I just wanted others to have a community, a place where they can go to when they start their journey at UCCS,” Thompson said.
With each club having their own events and meeting times, Thompson has had to fine-tune his schedule to cover all seven clubs throughout the week. He does bi-weekly meetings to help balance his time as a senior in his final semester.
Thompson’s wish for each of these clubs is to make UCCS more of a welcoming community for all who come in, whether someone is a freshman new to UCCS or a senior looking to explore more campus culture.
While yes, being the president of seven clubs is a lot to manage and balance all together, Thompson said, “The community is worth it, and meeting all the new people is always nice.”
