The Mountain Lions were defeated by Westminster in the second overtime half of the RMAC quarterfinals on Nov. 5, ending their RMAC season.
The first half of regulation time saw eight shots by UCCS. #21 midfielder Makayla Merlo and #8 midfielder Emily Aguilar each had two shots in the first half.
In the second half, UCCS again outshot Westminster with six shots compared to Westminster’s four, with neither team finding the back of the net.
The 90 minutes of regulation ended scoreless, which sent the game into two ten-minute overtime halves.
The first overtime half saw no shots by either team. However, in the second overtime half, UCCS mustered five shots, but it only took one Westminster shot to break the scoreless tie and win the match for the Griffins.
#2 defense Jade Kinsey, Aguilar, #16 midfielder Anna Vince were the biggest contributors to UCCS’s 19 shots with three each. #1 goalkeeper Isabella Whitmore had three saves.
The loss ends the Mountain Lions’ RMAC title hopes, but UCCS still has hope to make the NCAA Division II tournament. The selection show will be on Monday, Nov. 13 on NCAA.com.
