UCCS Men’s Golf ends with fifth place finish in RJGA South Central Shootout

     UCCS Men’s Golf took fifth place in the RJGA South Central Shootout on Sept. 21, jumping three spots from the previous day and finishing with a 30-over par 894. 

     Redshirt senior Ignacio de La Vega finished as the top UCCS player posting 224 to tie for 25th place. He matched his round one score with having four birdies on the day. The second-best scorer in the tournament for the Mountain Lions was junior Barrett Jones who placed 28th with a score of 225. 

     Sophomore Brady Haake finished 32nd place and Brandon Bervig, also a sophomore, tied for 33rd place.  

     Junior Lucas Howell tied for 10th place to end the day. He finished as the UCCS team member with the best individual performance. 

     Freshman Rio Newcombe finished his second collegiate tournament, putting himself in 30th place with 226. He finished with a two under par, the team’s lowest round of the day.  

     UCCS finished in the top five at the end of the tournament with CSU-Pueblo winning the tournament. They scored a total of 39 birdies and averaged a 4.80 par. 

     Men’s golf will look forward to their next tournament on Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct 5.
