This month, UCCS athletics has seen three records fall.

On Feb. 19, the women’s track team broke the Distance Medley Relay record with a time of 11:42.66. The previous record, set on Feb. 8, 2013 was 11:51.10.

The DMR consists of one team member running three laps, the second runner going one lap, the third running two laps and then the final member runs four laps.

The UCCS DMR team that set the record is made up of senior Melanie Diep, junior Chelsea Martus, sophomore Molly Klotz and senior Chantelle Fondren. The record was also a NCAA qualifying time.

Senior forward Alex Welsh of the men’s basketball team broke the career rebounding record in overtime against CSU-Pueblo on Feb. 5. The record of 800 rebounds was previously held by Jack Bain, who played for the Mountain Lions from 2000-04.

Entering play on Feb. 26, Welsh had 863 rebounds, and is also 21 points away from breaking the all-time scoring record of 1,912 points held by Derrick White.

On the women’s basketball team, junior forward Brittany Hernandez broke the 1,000-point mark against Black Hills State on Feb. 19.

At 471 points this season entering play on Feb. 26, Hernandez is already in the top eight scorers all time. The number one spot is held by 2015 graduate Abby Kirchoff, with 1,951 points.

Senior Gabby Ramirez has 336 career assists entering play on Feb. 26, putting her third in school history.

With these records in mind, the Scribe took a look at other relevant records from UCCS teams.
