Inactive Director of Finance delayed club funding

SGA’s former Director of Finance Jordan Vasconcellos was unanimously impeached on Oct. 2 due to severe absences and failing to chair BAC, and SGA is still catching up.

The director of finance is responsible for overseeing the Budget Advisory Committee, which organizes how club funding is distributed.

At the impeachment, Senator-at-large Stefan Hoffmann presented the BAC meetings’ minutes that showed Vasconcellos’ absence.

According to Hoffman, SGA was backlogged with club funding approval at the beginning of the school year and became additionally overwhelmed due to Vasconcellos’ lack of involvement. The delayed funding created tension between SGA and clubs, something Director of Student Engagement Noelle San Souci echoed.

“I think it strained relationships between SGA and clubs just because clubs need access to their funding and they couldn’t get off to as quick of a start as they usually do,” said San Souci.

Hoffmann noted Vasconcellos’ departure was delayed due to the slow process of impeachments, relative to resigning from a position.

“Jordan did have every opportunity to come forward and resign, and I don’t want to slander him or drag him through the mud or anything, but he did make this process a little bit more difficult by not being present at his impeachment hearing,” Hoffmann said.

San Souci said that SGA really “rallied” to keep things in as much order as possible, with Hoffmann noting that Vice President Isabella Polombo was instrumental in sifting through backlogged club fund proposals.

The search for a new director of finance is underway with the appointment advisory committee nominating candidates soon and an appointment schedule at the next Senate meeting.
