UCCS has prepared activities for families to participate in when they visit their college students at Family Weekend, Oct. 14-16.
The weekend opens with a campus-wide open house for family members to learn about and support their students’ fields of study on Friday, Oct. 14. The open house, from 3-5 p.m., can be a great opportunity to discover resources that are available to both students and families.
The arts experience expo is also on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Organizations like the Department of Visual and Performing Arts and Theatreworks Colorado Springs will share news about their upcoming performances. There will also be several short performances and sneak peeks for everyone to enjoy. Pinney’s Cafe will also have a cash bar and mocktails available.
On Saturday, Oct. 15, the clubs and organizations sampler will give families a taste of over 150 clubs available to students on campus. This event is from 10-11 a.m.
That afternoon is the Mountain Lion FamFest, which is considered to be the main event of the weekend. There will be activities available from 1:30-4 p.m. including motorboat races, backyard games, button making, arts and crafts and more. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will bring a few small animals to campus for the fest.
“Top Gun: Maverick” will also be shown at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. The first 275 people to attend the event will receive their own pair of UCCS aviators.
The weekend closes out on Sunday, Oct. 16, with the UCCS women’s soccer game against Adams State at Mountain Lion Stadium at 1 p.m. The Gallery of Contemporary Art will also be open at the Ent Center from 1-7:30 p.m.
There are more activities happening throughout the weekend, including bingo games, family treks around the campus’ hiking trails, various opportunities to try new foods and performances for everyone to enjoy.
The university is also looking for volunteers to help out this weekend. Much of the help is needed with the FamFest on Saturday, but other volunteer opportunities are available throughout the weekend.
For more information about the events, visit the Family Connections page on the UCCS website. To volunteer, visit Volunteer with UCCS or contact Ellen Burkart, [email protected].
