A vehicle accident at the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Regent Circle shut down all westbound lanes of traffic on Austin Bluffs Parkway for multiple hours earlier today.

According to live coverage from KKTV 11 News, a motorcycle operator was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. and appeared to involve two vehicles. A UCCSAlert was sent to the UCCS community at 1:15 p.m. regarding the crash and advising recipients to avoid the area.

A Nissan sedan was seen with extensive damage to its passenger side doors and windshield. A motorcycle was also seen lying on its side next to the sedan. Debris from the damaged vehicles and clothing could also be seen on the road in front of the two vehicles.

A fire truck and multiple police cars responded to the scene. One ambulance also responded to the accident and left shortly after.

Police cordoned off the intersection with yellow caution tape and were on the scene for multiple hours. An individual in a police vest was seen taking photos of the crash.

Traffic traveling westbound on Austin Bluffs was redirected onto Regent Circle causing severe traffic backups throughout the UCCS campus from Lot 222 to the Ent Center.

Another UCCSAlert was sent out around 3 p.m. advising drivers leaving the UCCS campus westbound to use Clyde’s Way and those heading eastbound to use Meadow Lane.

Police are still on the scene at the time of publication.

     This is a developing story.

Police were at the scene of the accident for several hours after the accident occurred.
