PHOTOSPREAD | Remembrance Walk

UCCS held a remembrance walk on Feb. 17 to honor the lives of Samuel Knopp and Celie Rain Montgomery, the victims of a double homicide that occurred in the dorms on Feb. 16, 2024. The walk started at El Pomar Plaza and ended at La Plata House in Alpine Village.

Before the walk, Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet and Director of Mental Health Services Benek Altayli addressed attendees. A moment of silence was held when the walk reached La Plata House. Approximately 50 people participated in the event.

The remembrance walk was part of a series of remembrance week events from Feb. 17 to Feb. 21.

“There’s definitely a somber, very hard presence that’s being felt around this community … It’s definitely a hard time for everyone trying to process this and move forward, even though it was a year ago,” Christopher Lalone, a student engagements operations professional, said.
