Staff Picks: Favorite articles we have written and photos we have taken

The Scribe staff shares the favorite articles they’ve written, from news to Paddington reviews. Photographers of the Scribe share the favorite photos they’ve taken, including summit meetings and powerful shots of the marble Clyde statue.

Zee O’Donnell | Co-Editor-in-Chief

My review of “Paddington in Peru” was absolutely the highlight of my journalistic career. Deep breakthroughs into previously unknown fields of knowledge were made in that movie theater.

Ellie Myers | Associate Editor

I think my favorite article I’ve written here is “Putting trigger warnings on Jane Austen’s novels undermines her point.” I always love talking about Jane and using evidence from her books.

Tori Smith | Managing Editor

My favorite article I’ve ever written is the satire “UCCS merges three offices to make room for new Office of Stainability.” It was so fun and silly, and it was based off an email I received from a member of the Office of Sustainability that had a typo in it which they referred to themselves as the Office of Stainability.

Grace Brajkovich | News Editor

My Senator Hickenlooper article, because it has a strong structure and it was about important campus issues.

Kaylie Foster | Features Editor

Sports Opinion: Russell Westbrook is not going to save the Denver Nuggets.” This article is mentioned by my family at least once a week. Unless the Nuggets win the championship, I stand by everything I said. I hope I’m wrong … but we all know I’m not.

Lillian Davis | Sports Editor and Photo Editor

My favorite story that I’ve written is “UCCS Alumni’s jersey retired 10 years after her final season,” about women’s basketball player Abby Kirchoff. I knew as soon as I wrote the lede that it was going to be awesome.

I am proud of every photo I take, but this image of the flowers on the mountain lion statue from the 2024 solidarity walk is my best work. It captures the unity and community at UCCS post-tragedy.

Kate Marlett | Copy Editor

My favorite article I’ve written was the love letter to my beautiful, reliable, amazing Kia Soul entitled “I met my (Kia) Soulmate on Valentine’s Day.” I love you, Aeryn. You’re the best.

Syanna Santiago-Smith | Website Manager

This article about crime prevention was my first article ever! I got really good feedback, especially considering it was my first article. It gave me confidence to genuinely pursue journalism (plus, I got to submit it around my birthday)!

Livi Davis | Reporter

I had so much fun at the house of GOCA event. They made me a press pass and gave me a designated seat. I felt so professional being there, not to mention the amazing event itself. It felt like a NYC fashion show.

Abigail Katharin | Reporter

Writing an article about trying to join a frat is my favorite journalistic endeavor I’ve ever undertaken. Shoutout Pi Kappa Phi!

Ava Knox | Reporter

My favorite article has to go to my Grammy’s review. I know nothing about music, and I fooled all of my editors!

Noah March | Reporter

My Tyler, the Creator review. This was my favorite article to write because it was the best rap concert I’ve ever been to and very nostalgic to my middle school days.

Rhianna Smith-Burns | Reporter

My favorite is my opinion piece defending sweet potato casserole. I’ve been defending it at every Thanksgiving dinner since I was 8 years old.

Josiah Dolan | Photographer

I think my favorite is one of the first photos I took for the Scribe. It was a picture with the Clyde statue in the foreground with the campus in the background.

Anysia Hovel | Photographer

This has been my favorite photo so far! It was featured in the Model UN article.
