“THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE” by RAYE, released on March 27, provides healing in a world that desperately needs it. The importance of this narrative is worth forgetting about the assigned reading you needed to do this week.
RAYE blends pop, R&B, dance, soul and jazz into her style, using her music to address contemporary issues and the personal struggles that she has faced since becoming a singer.
“THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE” is RAYE’s second studio album. She has designed it to promote hope and healing after feeling self-doubt and heartbreak. The album is split into four acts: winter, spring, summer and fall.
The album contains 17 songs over a 73-minute runtime. With collaboration from German music producer Hans Zimmer, RAYE’s two sisters Amma and Absolutely, and her grandfather Grandad Micheal, this album tells a deeply personal story.
The songs “Click Clack Symphony” and “Winter Woman” are two of the best songs that came from this album. These are the best on the album — the lyrics, music and message from the whole album are projected best through those two songs.
While it does seem like quite the lengthy album, the beautiful melodies and storytelling lyrics are easy to get swept away on. It is a work whose length enchants.
So, instead of trudging through that journal article for your class, you should listen to “THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.”
