Trying coffee shops so you don’t have to: Kairos Coffee House

If you’re done with Dutch and looking local, Kairos is a moody place to grab coffee and a bite, but don’t bet on a quiet coffee study spot.

The first thing I noticed when I pushed open the door to Kairos Coffee House was the smell of warm espresso and bacon. The tables were packed, and I knew right away this would be a cozy place to go when the weather is cold and I have homework. Vibes aside, how was the actual coffee?

The smells and atmosphere are enticing, but what really counts are top-notch drinks, a welcoming vibe, a study-friendly environment, and of course, how long it takes to get there.

Kairos Coffee House is a 10-minute drive from UCCS, which earns it five stars in the location department. However, I gave it a three out of five overall because it was so busy, and the volume was a little loud for a locked-in study session. If you’re OK with studying in company, this might be your cup of coffee. Also to note, outlet access was minimal, and seating was very much a get-what-you-can situation.

What Kairos lacks in quiet, it makes up for in ambiance and food. The floors are black-and-white tile, paired with moody chandeliers, string lights, cozy couch seating and a large stone fireplace for the winter.

The food menu is standard for a coffee shop. For beverages they have tea, drip coffee, espresso and some noncoffee options. I ordered their guacamole croissant and a hot latte. The espresso was smooth, and the milk was creamy—an easy five out of five for the latte. The guacamole croissant came with egg, bacon, guacamole and a spiced jam. It was delicious, earning four out of five stars.

Pricing for food ranged from $6.25 to $12, while drinks averaged around $5. Prices are reasonable, with their coffee being more affordable than many competitors.

Kairos Coffee House is a three out of five for me. The goods and services were great, but I found it a little too bustling to study. Still, it’s worth a visit if you have a long break between classes and want some caffeine.
