The Study Break: “The Drama”

Calling this movie “The Drama” is an understatement. If you thought submitting your project a minute before it was due on Canvas was dramatic, just wait until you see this movie.

When Emma (Zendaya) reveals a heavy secret to her fiancée Charlie (Robert Pattinson), the weight of the admission threatens their relationship. Can Charlie go through with the wedding?

Kristoffer Borgli wrote and directed an anxious masterpiece. I haven’t felt this nervous in a theater in so long. Along with a captivating script, the narrative has the audience laughing and gasping from the very beginning.

It wouldn’t have played out perfectly if not for Zendaya and Pattinson. I’d argue this is Zendaya’s most mature and engaging role in her filmography thus far.

Created as a dark comedy/drama, some might argue this film as tone deaf, but it is structured to be thought provoking, never giving the audience an easy answer. This movie makes you contemplate who and what is justifiable in this world.
