Weather 

     This week will be warm before cooling down considerably this weekend. Expect sun and highs in the 70s through Thursday. The weather will cool down and cloud over on Friday and over the weekend. 

Colorado Wildfires 

     Wildfires in the Boulder area have gotten more severe, causing the mass evacuation of at least 900 homes in the area, as of Sunday. The Wild Horse Fire continues to burn closer to home in the Fort Carson area, but is 70% contained, according to a report released on Sunday. The fire danger level in Colorado Springs is HIGH and a burn ban is still in effect. 

Fatal hit-and-run crash 

     A man was killed Saturday on Interstate-25 in a hit-and-run accident. The victim was riding a motorcycle on I-25 near the Pikes Peak International Raceway when he was hit by a gold Nissan Altima, which left the scene. The man was thrown from the motorcycle and died from his injuries. The vehicle and driver that fled the scene have since been located. 

COVID-19 at UCCS 

     Last week, there were a total of nine new cases reported at UCCS, an average of 1.8 cases per day in a five-day period. Two of the 33 isolation rooms provided by UCCS are in use. The cumulative number of cases since the beginning of the semester is 39, and 31 of these individuals have recovered. 

COVID-19 in the U.S. and the world 

     40.2 million people have been infected by COVID-19 worldwide, and 1.1 million people have died as a result of the virus. 8.2 million people in the U.S. have been infected and of this number, 219,765 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins. The anticipated “second wave” is beginning to impact many countries around the world, including France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, among others. The recent spikes in cases have resulted in new lockdown measures across Europe. Some news sources are reporting that the U.S. is currently approaching a third wave.
