COVID-19 in the U.S. and the world

40.2 million people have been infected by COVID-19 worldwide, and 1.1 million people have died as a result of the virus. 8.2 million people in the U.S. have been infected and of this number, 219,765 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins. The anticipated “second wave” is beginning to impact many countries around the world, including France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, among others. The recent spikes in cases have resulted in new lockdown measures across Europe. Some news sources are reporting that the U.S. is currently approaching a third wave.
