The Study Break: “GOAT”

Welcome back to the Study Break. If you’re the greatest of all time at getting homework done, then you don’t need to see Tyree Dillihay and Adam Rosette’s new children’s film, “GOAT.” But if you’re a Division I procrastinator, this film may inspire you to finally turn in an assignment on time.

Produced by NBA all-star Steph Curry, “GOAT” follows an actual goat trying to find his way into the “roarball” league. When Will Harris (Caleb McLaughlin) trips up a professional roarball player with his impressive basketball skills, the video goes viral, landing Harris with a contract with his favorite team.

What makes this film stand out is the cast. Mixed in with actors that are widely known basketball players. Stephen Curry, Dwayne Wade, A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese, Kevin Love and Andre Iguodala have collaborated to make this movie possible.

From the studios that created the “Spider-Verse” films and “K-pop Demon Hunters,” this animation is flawless. All the character designs are fun to look at. Seeing a bunch of different species playing basketball against each other is a creative take on the game and makes it an entertaining watch for all ages.

As someone who isn’t a huge basketball fan, I couldn’t connect to it too heavily, although there is definitely a target market for this film.

If you have little siblings or cousins, it might make it a better watch, or if you played basketball, this film might strike a sense of nostalgia from growing up with the game. Above all else, if you are the “GOAT” at putting off homework, then I highly recommend you go watch this movie — it might inspire you to hit the books straight away.

“GOAT” released to theaters on Feb. 13, 2026. Picture by Sony Pictures Animation.
